Pre WWII U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander’s Overcoat from Brooks Brothers

The heavy overcoat is constructed on a high quality navy blue wool. The double breasted coat has eight black plastic buttons on the front, with a small button under each collar. Inside of the coat is a storm flap closure which can be fastened to the buttons beneath the collar to close the front collar completely. The coat has a rear waist belt and an interior flap, closed with a button, which can be opened to permit the wear of a sword harness. beneath the coat for the wear of a sword on the exterior. The coat sleeves have two stripes of black braid to reflect the rank of Lieutenant Commander. The coat is without loops on the shoulders for the wear of rank boards, as introduced in the war. The exterior of the coat shows some dust from storage, but overall it is very clean and without holes or damage. The interior cloth lining has a separation at a seam. Inside of the interior pocket is a Brooks Brothers label bearing handwritten measurements, and attached to the coat is an old tag that appears to bear a handwritten name. Overall the coat is quite impressive and it is in excellent condition.
