One Woman’s WWII Homefront Scrapbook with Civil Defense, Rationing, and Red Cross Content

$175.00

The scrapbook is approximately 6-1/4 inches by 9-1/4 inches. The scrapbook was compiled by Ms. Carita Judd of Connecticut, who during the war served as a Civil Defense air Raid Warden, a member of the Red Cross, and who was clearly very active in a variety of home front activities, such as the donation of rubber tires to the war effort. The scrapbook contains coupons and books for food and gasoline rationing; Civil Defense materials, and a wide variety or ephemera which relates to the contributions of civilians to the war effort. The scrapbook even includes an example of the gasoline rationing car window decal, something which should never have survived. Apparently, Ms. Judd preserved one of her window decals when she replaced it with a new one, placing the old decal in this scrapbook. A very interesting window into the American home front during the Second World War.
