Old Japanese Family Blade in WWII Army Officer Shin Gunto Mounts with Leather Combat Cover
$1,100.00
The Japanese Army officer’s sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 38 inches, with a blade length of approximately 23 inches. The blade is generally bright, showing some scattered dark spots, minor inclusions, and surface dirt. The blade has a visible and distinct temper line, and the tang shows some minor surface rust. The tang of this old blade has three mounting holes and it is unsigned. The ray skin grip is wrapped in the traditional style with brown fabric, with the grip being narrower than normally seen, reflecting adaptation of the grip for the age of the blade. Beneath the wrapping are figural menuki on each side. The tsuba guard is the solid style, with relief cherry blossoms. The scabbard is enclosed within a leather combat cover, which shows typical scuffs and abrasions from use in the field. Overall very good condition.
