Named WWII U.S. Navy Seabees Unit Mark 2 Fighting Knife

The knife shows wear to the finish with indications of sharpening of the cutting edge and the top edge of the clipped point. The guard exhibits a film of surface rust. The leather washer grip shows wear and age but it is without damage. The pommel, like the guard, shows surface rust. The leather sheath shows age and use, but it is complete and intact. The top front of the sheath bears the “U.S.N.” mark. The reverse side of the sheath bears a handwritten notation which appears to be a name above the designation of “59th Batt.”, undoubtedly reflecting that the knife was carried by a sailor serving in the 59th Naval Construction Battalion.
