Named WWII Submarine Medals and Insignia Group

$2,450.00

The group is comprised of the medals and insignia of Joseph A. Fedder. According to a 1993 obituary that was found online, Fedder was a 1942 graduate of Warrior Run High School in Pennsylvania. He was a member of the submarine service during World War II, serving on the U.S. Bumper (SS 333). The group includes the following items:

– A five piece medal bar with the U.S. Navy Good Conduct medal, officially machine engraved on the reverse “Joseph A. Fedder 1946”, and with the ribbon exhibiting four stars for subsequent awards; the American Campaign Medal; the Asia Pacific Campaign Medal; the World War II Victory Medal; and the China Service Medal. The medal bar has clutch back fasteners.

– A small submarine pin with”368″ on conning tower. SS 368 was the submarine “Jallao”.

– A Bakelite frame measuring approximately 7-1/4 inches by 7-1/4 inches, crafted in the shape of porthole, containing a signed watercolor of the insignia of the submarine USS Bumper.

– Three WWII  jacket patches of the submarine USS Jallao (SS 368). Two of the patches are embroidered on blue wool and they are approximately 4 inches in diameter. One of the patches is embroidered on white wool and it is approximately 3-3/4 inches wide. One of the blue patches has a small hole in the interior as well as some edge bites. The other blue patch shows surface soiling and it was apparently removed from a jacket, as was the white patch.

– Two sterling silver Submariner dolphin badges, both marked “Sterling” and “LGB”, reflecting production by the Balfour company. One of the badges is pin back, while the other is clutch back.

– Three Submarine Combat Patrol badges. One of the badges is pin back, with holes for placement of patrol stars. The reverse of the badge bears the H-H within a stylized star of the Hilborn Hamburger company. The other two badges are clutch back. The scrolls do not have holes in them, indicating that any patrol stars would have had to have been soldered to the badges. One of these two badges also has the mark of the H-H within a stylized star of the Hilborn Hamburger company.

– An Australian Hat badge.

– A pin back Navy Chief Petty Officer cap insignia.

The items in the group are generally in very good condition.
