Named WWII 71st Infantry Division Combat Infantryman Purple Heart / Bronze Star Medals and Insignia Group

The group is comprised of the World War II medals and insignia, as well as the post-war issued medals, of Sol Grossman, a combat infantryman of the 14th Infantry Regiment in the 71st Infantry Division. The group is comprised of the following items:

– Cased World War II Purple Heart, slot brooch suspension, unnamed as awarded in the theater of operations, with enamel lapel badge, in the titled black leather case;

– World War II Bronze Star, slot brooch suspension, unnamed as awarded in the theater of operations, with the ribbon showing some wear;

– World War II U.S. Army Good Conduct Medal, slot brooch suspension, unnamed as awarded, with extra length of ribbon and single ribbon bar;

– World War II Victory Medal, crimp brooch suspension, with the ribbon showing soiling;

– A single ribbon bar for the European Campaign Medal, and a three place pin back ribbon bar, with the ribbons for the American Campaign Medal, the European Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, and the World War II Victory Medal.

– A sterling clutch back Combat Infantry Badge, showing some chips to the blue paint;

– One of Grossman’s dog tags, on a neck chain;

– A pair of theater made, painted, distinctive unit insignia of the 14th Infantry Regiment;

– A lapel pin for the Disabled American Veterans; a “Ruptured Duck” honorable discharge lapel pin, and a sterling blue service star pin;

– An unused shoulder patch for the 71st Infantry Division and an army enlisted visor cap badge.

The group also includes medals that were issued to Grossman after the war, these being the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, both in the padded presentation cases with lapel badges and ribbon bars, and both officially named to Grossman. Also present are the boxed U.S. Army Good Conduct Medal, officially named; and the boxed American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal, all crimp brooch suspensions, with ribbon bars, and with the boxes showing age and some separations. There is also a post-war marksmanship badge with the “Carbine” bar. There is also a brass plaque, engraved on three lines: “Sol Grossman / Liberator / Patton’s 3rd Army”.

The World War II medals and insignia show age and wear but overall are in very good condition. The post war medals are in excellent condition.
