Named German Cross in Gold by Otto Klein

The cross is four rivet construction, marked in the center reverse with the LDO number “134”, indicating manufacture by the firm of Otto Klein. The back of the cross was etched by the recipient with his name and details of the award: “K. Werner Feldwebel Russland 12.2.1943”, indicating that the decoration was awarded to Senior NCO Werner for action in Russia on February 12, 1943. The cross shows the expected signs of use and wear, with oxidation to the backing plate beneath the swastika and wear to the black finish of the star. The enamel of the swastika has typical scratches, but it is without chips or cracks.
