Named and Signed WWII Japanese Personal Good Luck Flag: “Destroy America and Britain”

The silk flag is approximately 27-1/2 inches by 34-1/4 inches. Two corners retain cord ties. The flag displays numerous slogans and signatures, including “eternal Good Fortune in Combat”; “The Emperor’s domain is eternal”; “A warrior worth a thousand men”; “May the Imperial realm remain eternal”; “Destroy America and Britain”; and “Britain is within our reach”. There also appears the phrase “Like an Asura”, encouraging the recipient of the flag to fight fiercely, like a legendary Buddhist “Asura”, a wrathful warrior deity. The flag bears the dedication of “Presented to Mr. Minoru Kato”, with the flag bearing many signatures of the friends and family of the recipient who wrote the encouraging declarations. The flag is multi piece construction, with a separately sewn rising sun, and it makes an excellent appearance.
