Named and Cased Posthumous WWII B-17 Tail Gunner Purple Heart with Wing and Next of Kin Dog Tags
$795.00
The Purple Heart has a slot brooch suspension and it officially hand engraved to William F. Tyson, who served in the Army Air Force as a B-17 tail gunner in the 353rd Bomb Squadron, 301st Bomb Group, and who was killed in action on December 8, 1943, when his B-17 exploded while on a bombing mission to Greece. The Purple Heart is accompanied by three of Tyson’s “Next of Kin” dog tags and a 3 inch clutch back Air Crew Wing. The group is accompanied by several pages of research, including the Missing Air Crew Report (“MACR”) that was prepared following the loss of the bomber. The MACR indicated that the bomber exploded as the result of the detonation of a bomb inside of the aircraft. Three of the crew were killed, including Tyson. Overall excellent condition.
