Model 1916 German Red / Brown Camo Combat Helmet

A very interesting Model 1916 German helmet that was given a coat of dark reddish-brown paint, undoubtedly a color that the original owner thought would be a more effective camouflage than the conventional field gray color. There is a squared swastika scratched into the front. In looking at the helmet it is not at all difficult to imagine that this helmet would likely be nearly invisible against the mud of No Man’s Land or the earth parapets of the trenches. The helmet has the steel liner band intact but leather liner is missing. Only a portion of the chin strap remains. A very interesting combat helmet with tremendous character.
