Model 1885 Private Purchase Army Officer Campaign Hat

A truly splendid example of the model 1885 black wool U.S. army campaign hat. This is a private purchase model with the impressed designation of “The U.S.A.” in the sweatband. The hat has a stated size 7 on an interior tag. The hat has snowflake vents on each side which were supplemented with additional small round holes, two on the right side and four on the left. The original grosgrain ribbon is present, as is a very nicely toned gold officer cap cord. The interior leather sweatband is complete and intact. An exceptionally fine example of a classic piece of Indian Wars headgear.
