Model 1833 French Navy Boarding Cutlass

The cutlass has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 33 inches, with a blade length of approximately 26 inches. The blade shows spots and surface grime, with indications of period sharpening on the cutting edge. One side of the blade bears an anchor design, while the blade spine has the manufacturer name and the date of 1838. A leather washer is in place at the top of the blade, and on one side f the ricasso are two proof marks. The grip shows age but it is without chips or cracks. The basket guard hilt shows age and wear to the  original black finish, as well as minor indentations. The leather scabbard exhibits scrapes to the surface but it is complete and intact. The brass scabbard fittings show an uncleaned patina. Overall very good condition.
