The group is comprised of the federal medal for service on the Mexican border, numbered on the edge “21469”; the Pennsylvania medal for service on the Mexican Border, numbered “881” on the edge; a Purple Heart, slot brooch suspension, officially named “James A. Bailey” and numbered “35944” on the edge; and a World War I Victory Medal, with bars for “Meuse-Argonne” and “Defensive Sector”. The ribbon of the Pennsylvania medal is tattered and separated from the medal itself. The ribbon of the Victory Medal shows edge wear. The group is accompanied by a research file which reflects that Bailey served in World War I with the 148th Infantry Regiment of the 37th Division, and that he was wounded on September 2, 1918, with the Purple Heart being received in May of 1933.
