M34 Double Decal SS Helmet

An exceptional example of the lighter weight M34 helmet that was used for parade and non-combat wear by members of the SS-VT (the SS-Verfugungstruppe, the early combat formations which later would become the nucleus of the Waffen SS) and by members of the SD (the Sicherheitsdienst, the intelligence and security agency of the SS). The helmet is single sheet, lighter weight steel, and it is in excellent condition. The exterior lighter green paint (often referred to as “apple green” is approximately 95% intact. The right side of the helmet displays the SS runes decal. The decal has toned with age to a golden color, as is often found in the early decals. The decal itself is approximately 99% intact. The left side of the helmet displays the NSDAP party shield decal which is also approximately 99% intact. The hard cardboard liner band is held in place with four non-removeable rivets. The liner shows some evidence of use but it is complete and intact to include the drawstring. The liner is marked as a size 54. The interior of the helmet skirt is stamped “Thale Stahl”, reflecting the fact that the helmet was manufactured by Eisenhttenwerke in Thale. The full leather chin strap remains on the helmet.
