M34 Double Decal SS Helmet Marked “Thale Stahl”

An excellent example of the lighter weight M34 helmet that was used for parade and non-combat wear by members of the SS-VT (the SS-Verfugungstruppe, the early combat formations which later would become the nucleus of the Waffen SS) and by members of the SD (the Sicherheitsdienst, the intelligence and security agency of the SS). The helmet is single sheet, lighter weight steel, and it is in very god condition. The exterior green paint is approximately 90 percent intact, showing spots, scuffs, and scratches, as well as a film of surface dirt and spots of rust. The right side of the helmet displays the SS runes decal, with the decal itself being approximately 80 percent intact. The left side of the helmet displays the NSDAP party shield decal which is approximately 70 percent intact. The hard cardboard liner band is held in place with three rivets, with the fourth (left rear) rivet being missing. The liner shows evidence of use but it is complete and intact to include the drawstring. The liner is marked as a size 55. The interior of the helmet skirt is stamped “Thale Stahl”, reflecting the fact that the helmet was manufactured by Eisenhttenwerke in Thale. The  leather chin strap is missing, with pieces of the chin strap secured to the interior liner on each side. Overall very good field used condition.
