Large WWII Oil Portrait of Lieutenant General Omar Bradley
$475.00
The finely executed oil portrait is within a modern frame that compliments the colors, and which is consistent with the quality 0f, the painting. The overall dimensions are approximately 23 by 27 inches. Bradley is shown wearing an olive drab, pile lined, parka along with his M1 combat helmet with three stars. The painting is clearly based upon one of several portrait photographs that were done of Bradley in his helmet and wearing this parka, those photographs apparently having been taken in January of 1945 (Bradley would receive his fourth star in March of 1945). The painting is signed by the artist although the signature is not entirely legible. The signature also appears to include a place name which, like the artist’s name, is evidently European, indicating that this painting was done in the ETO during the war. Considering the quality of the painting and the limited time during which it could have been produced (from January of 1945, when the portrait photograph was taken, until March of 1945, when Bradley received his fourth star), it seems likely that the painting was probably done at the request of a senior officer in Bradley’s 12th U. S. Army Group for placement in one of its headquarters.
