Large WWII Brigadier General Roll Collar Wool Overcoat

$375.00

An absolutely outstanding example of the distinctive overcoat worn by United States Army Generals in World War II. Reflecting a modification of the design of the Model 1938 Mackinaw officer overcoat, these WWII Generals’ top coats had a rear belt rather than a full waist belt; they were made entirely of high quality khaki colored wool with a full, artificial silk, lining; they featured an eight button front (with two of the buttons beneath the lapels of the collar); and a wide, roll collar with storm closure loops on the edges of each lapel. The sleeves carried the distinctive black braid of a General Officer. On this coat each shoulder also displays a single star, embroidered in heavy silver bullion, reflecting the wearer’s rank of Brigadier General. The tailor’s label is located in the interior collar. There is no interior size tag but the coat is easily a size 40 to 42 Regular. The coat is in immaculate condition, without spots, stains, or any indications of moth activity. A truly exceptional and scarce piece of World War II history.
