Large Identified 28th Division Uniform and Medal Group

$595.00

A large group of items which belonged to Benjamin H. Peffley, a Wagoner in Truck Company M of the 103rd Ammunition Train, 28th Infantry Division. The group is comprised of the following items:
– Peffley’s dog tag, named to “Benjamin H. Peffley Wag. Trk. Co. M 103 Amm. Tn. 28 Div. PA” and with his serial number of 1260027 on the reverse.
– World War I Victory Medal, full wrap brooch, with bars for Champagne-Marne; Aisne-Marne; St. Mihiel; Meuse-Argonne; and Defensive Sector. The medal is in excellent condition.
– Uniform tunic, with interior contractor label dated July of 1918. The tunic has the shoulder patch of the 28th Division and two gold overseas stripes as well as the red discharge stripe. The jacket is lacking collar disks. One of the two hook closures at the collar is missing. The tunic is in very good condition.
– M17 combat helmet with the 28th Division insignia painted on one side. The helmet is complete with its liner and chin strap and is in very good field used condition.
– Wool overcoat, with a 28th Division shoulder patch and a single gold overseas stripe. The overcoat is in very good condition.
– Gas mask in its carrying bag. The mask and filter are intact and the instruction card remains in the bag. The bag has a service number written on it in two places which is different from Peffley’s and so this gas mask was undoubtedly a re-issue to Peffley.
– Mess kit containing a large fork, a large spoon, and a knife, all of which are “U.S.” marked, as well as a small, non-issue spoon. The mess kit and utensils show obvious field wear.
– A pair of leather puttees.
– A brass whistle on a chain.
– A sewing kit which is stiff and quite worn.
– A color, folded map of France, printed in France, within its original paper sleeve.
– A small box of “UMC No. 2 Copper Primers” for shot shells and cartridges, with a few primers still in the box.
– A folding khaki cloth bag for toiletries which is empty. The bag has a cloth name label inside which identifies it as having belonged to another individual who apparently was in a Truck Company in Peffly’s same Ammunition Train.
– A photo booklet on Camp Meade, Maryland, titled “Over Here Preparing for Over There at Camp Meade, Maryland”. The boooklet is soft cover, 7 by 11 inches, in good used condition.
– 6 copies of “The American Legion Weekly” magazine, various dates between 1922 and 1925, all of which are addressed to “Harry Peffley”, presumably the brother of Benjamin Peffley.
