Japanese Model 1883 Navy Officer Sword

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 31 inches, with a blade length of approximately 24-1/2 inches. The plated blade is generally bright, showing spots of plating loss, primarily on the tip and the ricasso, with scratches as well as surface dirt. The guard, the knuckle bow, and the back strap all show an uncleaned patina, with the guard having an 11 leaf cherry blossom design and retaining much of its gilt finish. The ray skin grip is without damage and retains its wire wrapping. The leather scabbard shows age, but it is complete and intact. The scabbard fittings display an uncleaned patina, with some gilt finish being retained on the fittings.
