Japanese Army Officer Kyu-Gunto Sword
The sword has an overall length of approximately 35 1/2 inches in the scabbard, with a blade length of approximately 28 inches. The plated blade has gray areas, but a temper line is visible and the blade has no chips, nicks, or active rust. The grip is ray skin, and both the guard and the grip have the traditional decorative embellishments of an Army officer’s sword. Missing the small pin connecting the grip strap to the lower collar. The ray skin grip is secured by black metal rivets on each side rather than by a mekugi wooden peg and so the grip was not intended to be removed. The scabbard was painted with a matte olive brown paint that is largely intact. A very nice looking sword.
