Indian Wars Model 1885 Cavalry Carbine Sling and Snap Hook

A very nice example of the Indian War-era Cavalry shoulder sling designed for use with weapons fitted with sling rings; essentially a slimmed-down version of the Civil War carbine sling. This specimen is constructed of a bridle leather belt measuring 1 3/8” wide by approximately 57” in overall length with hardware of a steel swivel and snap-hook device used to attach it to the carbine ring. Also present is a square brass adjustment buckle and small brass sling end tip. The buckle is sewn in place with three lines of stitching. The leather strap is faintly stamped with an arsenal marking as well as a “114” rack number and “A4” The sling swivel and hook are in very good condition with even dark patina with areas of surce roughness. Clearly stamped “ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL”. The leather shows wear, minor flaking and some dryness.
