Imperial Prussian Cavalry Officer Jawless Lion Head Sword with Triple Etched Blade
$675.00
The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 39 inches, with a blade length of approximately 32 inches. The plated wide blade shows some smudges and spots but generally it is very bright. Each side of the blade has an etched panel of approximately 10 inches, with designs which include a panoply of arms and the Hohenzollern imperial eagle. The spine bears an etched leaf design. The grip is covered in sharkskin and it exhibits signs of age and use, but it is intact and it remains tightly triple wrapped with brass wire. The guard, knuckle bow and pommel all display an untouched and uncleaned patina. The obverse langet has a relief design of crossed sabers within a wreath of oak leaves, while the reverse langet has a blank escutcheon where a monogram could have been engraved. The pommel is in the style of the “jawless” lion head. The back strap and the knuckle bow also have fine relief designs which include oak leaves and a panoply of arms. The black scabbard paint shows wear, but is it largely intact. The scabbard has one or two small indentations which do not in any way effect the ability to draw or sheath the sword. Overall very good condition.
