Imperial Kriegsmarine Officer Lion Head Sword with Matching Numbers by Adolf Braun
$975.00
The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 33 inches, with a blade length of approximately 27-1/2 inches. The blade shows spots and scratches as well as a film of grime and an uncleaned patina. The ricasso bears the maker mark of the firm of Adolf Braun of Berlin. The white celluloid grip is age toned to a light yellow color on one side and a darker brown color on the opposite side. The grip is without chips or cracks and it remains tightly triple wrapped with brass wire. The folding guard, the back strap, the knuckle bow and the lion head pommel all display a dark and uncleaned patina, as do the scabbard fittings. The upper scabbard fitting is marked “N 1780:, with that same mark on the reverse closing locking guard. Also on the reverse guard is the Imperial eagle mark above the Kriegsmarine “M” mark. The leather scabbard is somewhat dry, showing scuffs and abrasions, but it is complete and intact. Overall very good condition.
