Imperial Japanese Type 18 Murata Bayonet

The bayonet was used with the Meiji 18 Murata Rifle and it has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 20-1/2 inches. The blade was period shortened from its original longer length. The blade exhibits surface grime, spots, and scratches from use in the field. The guard and the pommel similarly show spots and uncleaned patina. The pommel is serial numbered. The wood grips have age toning as well as minor pock marks from wear in the field but they are without damage. The bayonet is within its original leather scabbard, which is dry and bears scuffs and flaking of the surfaces, but the scabbard remains intact. Overall the bayonet is in good field used condition.
