The leather body of the helmet shows expected signs of age but it is complete and intact. The surface of the front visor exhibits age crazing, and there is some loss of stitching of the front visor, but the visor is secure on the body of the helmet. The silver wappen Bavarian helmet plate is secured by screw posts which enter the front of the helmet, which has only two holes. The helmet has silver metal fish scale chin straps, with the right side of the helmet having the national colors cockade. The left side is lacking the Bavarian colors cockade. The full leather liner is present, showing expected signs of wear and use, and lacking the drawstring. The underside of the visor is painted with the number “18”. Overall the Tschapka is in very good condition.
