The group is comprised of documents and memorabilia relating to the service of Major Joseph Graessle Moore, who served as the Chaplain at U.S. Army Number 35 General Hospital on New Guinea. The group includes a thin purple silk liturgical stole – as used for last rites in the field; a U.S. Army Chaplain’s black stole, embroidered with a gold cross and American eagle; the Army and Navy Hymnal, published in 1941; a pocket sized New Testament, published in 1942; a printed American flag, folded in the traditional manner; two wartime photographs of Moore in uniform; numerous wartime letters written by Chaplain Moore to his wife; and multiple documents pertaining to Moore’s military service, to include his commission as an officer and his Honorable Discharge from the Army Chaplain Corps. Overall the items in the group are in very good condition.
