Identified WWI AEF Soldier’s Photograph Album

The album is identified to Private William F. Schmidt of Company “B”, 164th Infantry Regiment of the 41st Division. A postcard within the album that Schmidt sent home from France also bears an identification of his unit as the 267th Company of the “MPC” (presumably the “Military Police Corps”). The album is approximately 11-1/2 inches by 15 inches. The album contains six original individual portrait of group photographs, with Private Schmidt identified in two of the group photographs. The album contains multiple postcards, several of which were sent home by Schmidt from France. Other postcards bear U.S. Army Signal Corps photographs of the front line area, while a number of the postcards were commercially produced in France and depict French towns and scenes. There are also two World War I German postcards, dated 1914 and 1916, both of which were sent from Germany to Schmidt’s family in New York before the United States entered the First World War. The album contains approximately 72 pieces, comprised of several photographs and the rest being postcards. Overall the album is in excellent condition.
