Gettysburg Relics Desk Display by Edward Woodward

A display of relics from the Battle of Gettysburg as assembled by Edward Woodward, a resident gunsmith in Gettysburg who created these desk displays between about 1885 and 1900. Woodward’s displays were characterized by the distinctive metal eagle that he crafted himself and included in the array of each set of relics. This particular display is approximately 6 inches wide by 3 1/4 inches deep. Presented on the wooden base are relics that Woodward recovered from the Gettysburg battlefield, including a piece of a bayonet; a piece of grape shot; several shell fragments; and several bullets. On the bottom of the base is written “From the Battlefield of Gettysburg”.
