German Souvenir Stein of a U.S. Army Airborne General and Commander of the 5th Special Forces Group in Vietnam

The porcelain stein is approximately 9 inches tall, inclusive of the lid finial. The stein dates to circa 1970 and it is named to U.S. Army Brigadier General Harold R. Aaron as a commander of the 2/509th Airborne Mechanized Infantry of the 8th Infantry Division (Airborne) in Germany. In 1968 and 1969, General Aaron, while then a Colonel, had served as the commander of the 5th Special Forces Group in Vietnam. The stein is decorated with the design of a Command Paratrooper wing as well as the insignia of the 8th Infantry Division (Airborne) as well as the distinctive unit insignia of the 509th Airborne Infantry Regiment. The base of the stein has the typical lithopane of a naked dancing girl. The stein lid shows age and some scuffs to the finish. The stein itself is in excellent condition, without chips or cracks. General Aaron was a 1943 graduate of West Point. He served as a combat infantry officer with the 65th Infantry Division in World War II, with subsequent significant assignments in the Counter Intelligence Corps and then rising to command to 5th Special forces Group in Vietnam at the height of the Vietnam War. He subsequently served in command positions in airborne units and intelligence operations. He ultimate retired as a Lieutenant General. He died in 1980 and he is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
