German Cross in Gold by C.E. Junker

$2,900.00

A superb example of a field worn German Cross in Gold by the prestigious firm of C.E. Junker. There were several firms that were authorized to manufacture the German Cross: Deschler; Steinhauer & Luck; Meybauer; Zimmermann; Godet; Klein; and Junker. It seems that, of these firms, the production of the Cross by Junker was much more limited than the other manufacturers. This German Cross is a classic Junker example, with five rivet construction and marked with Junker’s Prasidialkanzlei number “2” on the wide pin. This Cross was obviously awarded and worn with great pride. The black finish of the star shows the wear typical of a worn example, and the backing disc behind the swastika has the golden hued tarnish that is found on a German Cross that was continuously worn on the breast of a uniform. The swastika has some light scratches, but the enamel is very fine and without chips or cracks, something that seems to be very unusual in the Junker examples, which often have enamel loss to the swastika. The decoration is heavy, the components are still tight, and the entire piece has tremendous character as an awarded and worn example of a Junker German Cross.
