German Army Engineer EM/NCO Tropical Overseas Cap

A tropical climate overseas cap for an enlisted man or NCO of the Army engineers. The cap is the style that was worn by personnel of the Afrika Korps. The cap is constructed from olive green ribbed cotton material. The top center seam is correctly stitched right through the interior liner, for added strength. Each side of the cap has a metal alloy ventilation grommet. The tan enamel paint is mostly worn from the grommets. The front of the cap has the machine woven national eagle and national colors cockade on tropical backgrounds. The insignia is original to the cap. The cockade is flanked by an inverted “V” soutache in black, reflecting that the cap was worn by a member of an Army combat engineer unit. The soutache has been applied in the correct manner, being machine stitched in place and inserted through two small holes near the bottom edge of the cap. The interior of the cap is lined in red cotton with a manufacturer stamp. The cap shows wear and use but is in very good, field used condition.
