German Army Dove Head Officer Sword with Regimental Staff Portepee by F.W. Holler

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 40 inches, with a blade length of approximately 35 inches. The blade is very bright, with a mirror finish that shows only some typical spots and scratches. The ricasso has the thermometer trademark of the F.W. Holler firm. The black celluloid grip is without chips or cracks and it remains tightly triple wrapped with brass wire. The guard, knuckle bow, pommel and back strap all show a fine and uncleaned patina over the nickel plating. Tied around the guard is its original portepee with field gray leather strap and woven green “acorn” knot, representing regimental staff service. The scabbard retains virtually all of its gloss black paint, having a few minor scuffs and shallow indentations. Overall excellent condition.
