Four Medals of One soldier with Award Documents including the Signature of a Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves Recipient

The medals were awarded to Helmut Decker during his wartime service with Artillery Regiment 5. Each of the award documents is approximately 5-1/2 inches by 8 inches, and has a horizontal fold line. The group is comprised of the following:

– 1939 Iron Cross Second Class with award document. The medal was awarded to Decker as a Wachtmeister on 8 February of 1941. The document was signed by Generalmajor Karl Allmendinger, the commander of the 5th Infantry Division to which the artillery regiment was attached, and himself a recipient of the Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves. The Iron Cross is in excellent condition, The gloss black paint on the iron core is intact. The silver frame shows patina. The medal is in excellent condition.

– The Infantry Assault Badge, with award document. The medal was awarded to Decker as an Oberwachtmeister on30 March of 1942. The medal is zinc composition, and marked “R.S.”, reflecting production by the firm of Rudolf Souval.

– The Eastern Front Campaign Medal with award document. The medal was awarded to Decker as an Oberwachtmeister on 31 July of 1942. The medal is zinc alloy composition, showing typical wear to the silver finish on the helmet and rim. The medal suspension rings bears the LDO manufacturer code of “6”, reflecting production by the firm of Fritz Zimmermann.

– The 1939 War Merit Cross, Second Class, with Swords. The medal was awarded to Decker as an Oberwachtmeister on 20 April of 1944. The medal is zinc alloy composition, showing typical loss of the bronze wash finish.
