The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 35 inches, with a blade length of approximately 29 1/2 inches. The blade is largely gray in appearance. Each side of the blade displays a decorative motif in gilt on blued panels, incorporating an artillery barrel and flag on both sides. The bluing on the blade is worn but the gilt motifs remain substantially present on the blade. The wood grip is covered in leather and wrapped with brass wire, with the leather covering being largely intact.The brass pommel, back strap and guard all have an uncleaned patina. The leather scabbard is dry but intact. The scabbard has two brass fittings with suspension rings, these also have an uncleaned patina. The scabbard has no drag on the bottom. The ferrule exhibits a grape / leaf motif typical of the swords made by Frederich Widmann of Philadelphia.
