Extensively Signed WWII Japanese Hinomaru Flag

An extremely unusual example of a signed Hinomaru flag, with hundreds of signatures. The flag is artificial silk, approximately 27 1/2 by 29 1/2 inches in size, and is multi-piece construction, with a separately sewn red sun on the white field. The flag was very carefully divided into a series of dozens of small vertical boxes, with hundreds of individuals then writing their names into those boxes. The flag was likely presented to an individual of some note by co-workers in a large business or by colleagues at a university. The flag has several small holes and a few spots, but remains extremely impressive, displaying a phenomenal number of individual signatures.
