Exceptional Nazi Party and SA “Old Fighter” Dual Gold Party Badge, Medals, Documents, and Photographs Group

$3,850.00

The group is comprised of the medals, badges, photographs, and documents of Nazi Party and SA “Old Fighter” George Heinrich Staab, who was born on August 14, 1910, and who joined the Nazi Party on August 1, 1928, shortly before his 18th birthday. He also joined the Sturmabteilung (the SA, or Storm Troops) at about that same time. Staab held Nazi Party membership number 97,077. According to the late noted collector Bob Coleman, Georg Heinrich Staab was a founding member of SA Standarte 18, Gruppe Kurpfalz. He was a true “Alterkampfer,” being injured twice in fights (once being stabbed in the side) with the Communist Red Front. He was evidently a highly regarded member of his SA Standarte. Every year at the Nuremberg Rally he was given the honor of carrying the unit’s “Deutschland Erwache” standarte. Staab rose through the ranks, eventually reaching the position of Obersturmbannfuhrer during the war. Staab was also assigned to one year of service with the SA unit “Feldherrnhalle”. Staab died on December 8, 1944. The group includes the following items:

-Large (30.5 mm) Nazi Party Gold Party Badge. The badge, to be worn on any political or military uniform, bears Staab’s party member number of 97077 on the reverse. The badge shows age toning and spots of wear to the gilt finish. The enamel has typical scratches but it is without chips or cracks. The reverse has a vent hole and the “Ges. Gesch” mark.

-Small (24 mm) Nazi Party Gold Party Badge. This badge, intended for wear on civilian clothing, also bears Staab’s membership number of 97077. The badge shows toning and wear to the gilt finish. The enamel shows typical scratches and some dark spots, but it is without chips or cracks.

-SA Treffen Braunschweig 1931 badge. The badge is aluminum and is marked RZM M1/63.

-1930 Pfalzer Kriegerappel Landau Tinnie.

-Nuremberg Nazi Party Day Badge of 1929. This is an original example of the “Tinnie” for the fourth Nazi Party Nuremberg Rally, and it was given to the attendees of this early rally. It was later elevated to the status of an “Honor Badge” in 1936.

-Staab’s Nazi Party membership book, issued in 1930, but with dues stamps from 1929. The book bears the original signature of Nazi Party Treasurer Franz Xaver Schwartz. The book contains multiple handwritten entries, as well as a small document indicating that Staab was awarded the SA Honor Dagger (“Ehren-Dolch der SA”) on 20 April 1934 (Hitler’s birthday, and less than 3 months before the SA Rohm purge that became known as the “Night of the Long Knives”). The book also contains additional labels, including 8 labels on separate loose pages that were tucked into the book, reflecting Staab’s promotions within the SA. The book shows wear and use, but it is complete, legible, and intact.

-The SA Sports Badge in Bronze, together with the award book for this badge in its slipcase. The award book contains Staab’s photograph in SA uniform, and examination of that photograph shows that he is wearing his large Gold Party Badge and his 1927 Nuremberg Rally Day Badge.

-The group also includes four separate photographs. These are a small identification portrait photograph of Staab as a young SA man, 1 5/8 inches square, with a stamp on the reverse. In the photograph Staab is wearing the 1930 Pfalzer Kriegerappel Landau Tinnie that is in this group. There is another portrait photograph for an identification card or book, also 1 5/8 inches square, which shows Staab in the uniform of an SA Sturmfuhrer. A third photograph shows Staab in SA brownshirt uniform, with the rank of Obersturmfuhrer, with two other SA officers. A handwritten notation on the reverse bears the date of 1935. The photograph measures approximately 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. The fourth photograph is a group image of five SA men with flags, in which it appears that Staab is holding the Nazi Party flag. The photograph measures approximately 3 1/4 by 4 1/2 inches.

Overall the items are in very good to excellent condition.
