Exceptional and Complete M17 Austrian Combat Helmet

$1,350.00

An exceptionally fine example of the Model 1917 Austrian combat helmet. The distinctive exterior brown paint is approximately 95% intact. On the exterior dome of the helmet is impressed the small numeric heating code of”L124″ (The “L” indicates that the steel from which the helmet was made came from the Ludwikow rolling mill. Interestingly, the “4” is upside down in relation to the other numbers). The three pad leather liner is present, with filled pillows remaining behind each liner tongue. The drawstring is missing. There is a small tear of the leather of one of the tongues, about 1 inch in length, where it connects with the steel liner band. The steel liner band bears the size mark of “64”. The full fabric chin strap is present and attached to the helmet’s original “D” rings. The metal components of the chin strap, and specifically the grommets and buckle, show some rust, but the chin strap remains complete and strong. The entire helmet is in overall exceptional condition.
