Edo Period Japanese Wakizashi In Leather Covered Scabbard For Use By Tank or Pilot Officer’s

An Edo Period Japanese wakizashi mounted for military usage a size generally associated with tank or aviation officers. Measuring 31-1/4 inches overall in the scabbard and with a 20-1/2 inch blade. Grip wrapping is in excellent condition, pierced iron tsuba showing light surface rust, lower mount shows some tarnish. Lacquered wood scabbard with combat leather cover showing wear at the drag and scuffs at the lower end. Top of the scabbard features a leather strap which loops through the tsuba and snaps fast. Unsigned blade is mostly bright and has a distinct wavy temper line, there are a few small black spots and a shallow 1/8 inch nick in the edge.
