Early Named Model 1936 Chained SS Officer Dagger
$3,975.00
The dagger is the earlier variety with nickel cross guards and nickel chain. The black grip has an inset SS runes button that is straight up and down and which is free of chips or cracks, although there is verdigris around the runes button, just as there is on the cross guards, since the dagger is in an uncleaned and untouched state. The grip eagle is the nickel style, with nice patina and very good detail. The grip has scratches and indentations from carrying wear. There is a chip to the lower front area of the grip, just above the cross guard, with the chip being about 1/4 of an inch across and 1/4 of an inch high. There is a crack in the reverse center of the grip which runs from the lower cross guard up into the grip ridge, about 1/2 of an inch in length. The reverse of the lower cross guard has two sets of letters stamped into the guard. When the dagger is held with the point up, the letters “H F” can be read on the guard. When the dagger is turned with the point down, the letters “Sa” can be read. The blade is bright, with typical runner marks, and there is visible cross grain. The blade motto in on the lighter side but still stands out in nice contrast to the blade. The chain has excellent detail to both the SS and totenkopf links. The reverse of the chain bears the SS proof mark on one of the links. The name of “Frobel”, with an unlaut over the “o”, is scratched into the clip. The name seems quite unusual, creating the prospect that the officer can be researched. The scabbard body shows about 95% original black paint with scattered scratches and scrapes but no dents or damage. The ball is also dent-free.
