Early Luftwaffe Officer Sword of an SA Member
$1,050.00
The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 35 inches. The sword has early nickel silver fittings which all exhibit a fine and uncleaned patina. The sword is extremely unusual in that, during the period, the central roundel of a third pattern SA belt buckle of 1936 was affixed to one side of the pommel, presumably reflecting the fact that the Luftwaffe officer who owned the sword also served in the Storm Troops. The blade is approximately 26-1/2 inches long. The blade shows mottling of the finish along most of its length on both sides. The guard has sun wheel swastikas on each side which retain their toned gilt finish. The pommel also displays a sun wheel swastika on one side which also retains almost all of its gilt finish. The blue leather grip shows scuffs and abrasions although the grip remains tightly wrapped with twisted brass wire. The blue leather covering of the scabbard similarly shows scuffs, but it is complete and intact. Overall the sword is in an uncleaned condition and it makes a very good appearance.
