Deutsche Reichsbahn Signal Lantern

The lantern shows typical wear to the exterior black paint, with abrasions and spots of rust. The top is maker marked, while beneath the rear belt hook is the Third Reich Reichsbahn insignia of the eagle and swastika with the “D R” designation. One side of the lantern retains the red glass pane for creating a “red” signal, while on the opposite side the green glass pane was apparently broken at some point and it was replaced with green cellophane paper. The interior lamp fixture, which is removable, is dated “1963” on the base, reflecting the fact that there were many items that were produced during the Third Reich which, because of their utilitarian nature, continued to be used well into the post war period, despite their Third Reich markings.
