Deactivated WWII Japanese “Knee Mortar” Type 89 Grenade Launcher

The type 89 grenade launchers was referred to as a “knee mortar” by American troops, some of whom found that using the launcher with the curved base plate on their thigh could result in a broken leg. The grenade launcher has been cut with a tube opening and deactivated. The launcher shows some expected signs of use in the field, with wear to the finish as well as spots and stains, but it makes an impressive appearance and all visible serial numbers are matching.
