Civil War Union Cavalry Shell Jacket

The blue wool jacket is exceptionally clean, without holes, damage or repairs. The collar, cuffs, and rear are all trimmed with the golden yellow worsted wool embellishments of the cavalry branch. All gilt eagle buttons are intact. The interior retains a sewn cardboard tag, with the designation of “H.P.W. No. 1”. The interior lining of a sleeve is stamped “U.S. Q.M.D.” for the United States Army Quartermaster Department. There is some minor loss of interior stitching in the lining of the armpits. The shell jacket is in excellent condition and it makes a very good appearance.
