Civil War Navy Officer’s Cap


A superb example of a high quality regulation Union navy officers cap. The front exhibiting a bullion cap insignia used by the ranks Lieut Commander to Commodore. Bound edge tarred leather visor showing typical crazing. The original leather chin strap is attached by means of small US Navy side buttons which remain on each end. The 1 1/2″ soft leather sweatband is partially detached. Lightly padded brown polished cotton lining shows an embossed makers name which is illegible. The blue wool body is in excellent condition with a few minor holes. Very fine example of this uncommon form of Civil War headgear
