The Purple Heart is on a split brooch suspension, and it is unnamed as awarded during the war to Chief Boatswain’s Mate Clarence George Lucier of the U.S. Naval Reserve.. The medal shows wear to the gilt finish. The medal is contained within its titled black leather U.S. Navy “coffin” case, together with a wide ribbon bar, with the case showing spots. The award citation was presented in 1952 and attested to a wound received by Lucier on July 11, 1943. The document exhibits age toning and soiling. The medal and the citation are accompanied by a copy of Lucier’s service record, which states that, at the time of his wounding, he was serving on LCI 220 in Sicily.
