Cased Naval Gunnery 1st Class Proficiency Award Badge

A large, heavy silver and enamel first class award badge for proficiency in gunnery in the Imperial Japanese Navy. The badge was instituted in 1911 and it was awarded to Navy NCOs who had demonstrated their proficiency in the use and operation of naval gunnery, to include naval artillery and all artillery on board naval vessels, including anti-aircraft artillery and machine guns. The badge is in excellent condition with a fine, uncleaned patina. The case shows some age and wear but remains in very good condition.
