Cased Imperial Japanese Army General Presentation Scroll of General Kazunari Ugaki

The scroll was written, signed, and presented by Imperial Army General Kazunari Ugaki,. On the lid of the box containing the scroll is written “Writing by His Excellency Army General Kazunari Ugaki” (General officers were accorded the honorific title of “Kakka”, or “Your Excellency”). There is a seal on the scroll, applied by the General, which means “Quiet Resolution”. Another seal is that of the name of “Kazunari Ugaki“. In addition to writing his own name and applying his seals, the General wrote a poem on the scroll: “In front of the garden, there is no shadow of the pine tree in the moonlight; Along the wall space there is no wind, but there is a sound of the bamboo”. The scroll is approximately 15-1/2 inches by 57 inches. The scroll has a hanging cord at the top and a wooden dowel at the base. The scroll is contained within its fitted wooden case. The case shows age, but it is complete and intact. The scroll is in excellent condition.
