Cased and Numbered WWII Purple Heart

The decoration is on a slot brooch suspension and it shows only minor signs of age. The edge is numbered “187883”. The medal is contained within its titled black leather case, together with a ribbon bar and a length of ribbon. Also within the case is a photocopy of a 1944 next of kin letter sent from the Secretary of War to the brother of Private Thomas J. Moran of Pennsylvania. This would have been an American in the United States Army, serial number 32562100, who served in the 120th Infantry Regiment of the 30th Infantry Division. He was killed in action on August 7, 1944, and he is buried at the Brittany American Cemetery in St. James, France.
