Brown Bess Bayonet with Company and Rack Number Drilled for Spring Clip

Blackened iron, about 17 7/8 inches overall, with a 4-inch socket and 15 1/8 inch
blade, narrowing suddenly about 2 ½ inches from the tip, the very end of which is
missing. Overall light pitting and scattered thin standing rust, much of which will
clean. The socket shows a hole at the head of the mortise indicating it was fitted
with a spring clip. The bridge is broken at one side and about half is missing. One
side of the socket is engraved lengthwise “No. 5 A,” certainly the individual rack
number and the company letter.
