British Victorian Period 1827 Pattern Rifle Officers Sword

$550.00

The straight sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 39 inches. The blade is generally very bright, while retaining some old oil that was at one time applied to the blade to protect it. The blade is superbly etched on both sides, with one side bearing the royal cypher of  Queen Victoria, while the opposite side of the blade has the etched insignia of The Rifles.  The ricasso is etched with the name of the retailer of the sword. The basket hilt is pierced in design and also has the insignia of The Rifles. The ray skin covered grip remains tightly wrapped in wire. The grip covering shows age and spots of wear, but it is intact. The guard, backstrap, and pommel all show a dark finish and an uncleaned patina. The sword is within its nickel plated dress scabbard, which shows scattered dark spots, minor surface rust, dried grease and a very minor indentation towards the bottom. Overall very good condition, with an impressive blade. Dried grease on the scabbard easily removed and appears bright underneath.
